Program Philosophy
The goal of our program is to offer a safe and nurturing environment for children to encourage the development of positive self-concepts. We emphasize social skills, age appropriate pre-academic experiences, creativity and physical development. We believe children learn through their play, developing skills at their own individual pace. Our curriculum includes a balance of teacher initiated activities, child initiated activities, large and small group activities and individual activities in an age appropriate environment.
We believe parents are the single most important influence in a child’s life. On-going communication between staff and parents is important for your child’s success at the center. It helps us understand your child better and keeps you informed regarding your child’s progress
i
n our program. It can also give us important clues for future planning.
Toddler Program
Toddlerhood is the age of exploration.
It is the stage where children are beginning to develop independence, initiative and self-help skills.
Within the security of a predictable daily routine, children are offered a variety of choices, including sensory activities, large and
small motor activities and creative art. Activities to practice self help skills are also provided.
Large group activities, including stories, songs, and games, are brief and
relaxed; to meet the children’s ever changing attention span. Teachers model
appropriate words to encourage the children to use language, especially for
indicating what they want and for expressing their feelings. We encourage
children's developing social skills, including practicing getting along with a group and empathy for others.
Preschool Program
This class is the transitional room between our toddler program and our pre-kindergarten room. Independence, social skills and self help skills continue to be encouraged, including initiating and /or reinforcing toilet teaching. The curriculum includes creative art, small and large muscle activities, music, science and sensory activities. We also begin to introduce more structured group activities. Children have opportunities to practice newly acquired skills, including age appropriate academics and social skills.
"The spaces that teachers create for children seem to hold enduring memories for them that have a powerful influence on
what they will value later in life."
(
Authentic Childhood, by Susan Fraser)
Pre-Kindergarten Program
Our program helps build social, emotional and cognitive skills to prepare
children for their future educational experiences.
We provide a variety of interesting learning and recreational activities which include creative art, music, language, number concepts,
science, large muscle development, cultural awareness, development of self concept, cooperative play and creative dramatics.
We provide an emergent curriculum combined with a traditional approach. Children will learn though exploration and discovery.
